Advanced search help
The advanced search facility is designed to help you enter
more focussed queries and therefore to reduce the number of
redundant results.
Seekport's advanced search makes it easier for you to
search with boolean search strings, phrases, wildcards and
to restrict a search to a particular domain.
All words
The documents in the results list will contain all of the
words you enter into this textbox.
This query will return documents on "bangers" "mash" and
"onions".
Phrases
The words you enter into this textbox will be found in
consecutive order. This is useful when searching for film
titles, books and names or when searching for a fixed
expression , i.e.: à la carte.
This query will ensure that you only find results on the
popular saying and not on sausage recipes.
Excluding words
If you would like to focus your search even more, you can
use a combination of words and/or phrases and word
exclusions. All the words you enter into the textbox
'exclude' will not appear in the documents in the results
list. A word exclusion will only improve your results if
you combine it with an entry in the textbox 'all words' or
'exact phrase'.
This query will help you find onions and bangers and mash
but without ketchup.
Any word
One or more of the words you enter into the textbox 'any of
these words' will be contained in the documents in the
results list. This can be especially useful, when searching
for something with many possible descriptions.
Domain search
If you would like to restrict your search to one website
that you know contains good content (for example:
great-british-sausage-recipes.co.uk) you can specify this
site in the textbox 'this domain/website'.
If you would like to exclude a specific website / domain
you can do this by selecting 'except' in the dropdown list.
Searching selected fields
If you would like to specify whether your search term
appears in the title or the main text of the document you
can specify this by using the dropdown list:
In this case the results list will only contain documents
that contain 'bangers' and 'mash' in the document title.
Number of results per page : 10, 20, 50, 100 or 200
You will usually find more than 10 results for any given
query. If you would like to see more than 10 results at
once you can specify it here.

This query will give you a list of all sites that link to
